Classic duels: Schwantz v.s. Rainey

Throughout the late eighties and early nineties, motorbike racing fans were captivated by two exciting American riders. Kevin Schwantz and Wayne Rainey were just two of the bright lights in a golden era for the sport, with talents such as Mick Doohan, Eddie Lawson, John Kocinski and Wayne Gardner also lining up on the grid.

The legendary duels of the years 1987 through to 1993 were sadly brought to a close with Rainey suffering a serious accident, one which led to his retirement. Before the crash, the two had been neck and neck in the first four Grands Prix of the season, races which we look back on in this week's History Class.
