· Mattia Pasini has qualified on pole for the first time in his Grand Prix career, having started on the front row for the final 12 races of 2005.

· Pasini's pole position time is the fastest ever lap of the Jerez circuit by a 125cc machine, just one thousands of a second faster than the previous best set by Dani Pedrosa 2003.

· Alvaro Bautista has equalled his best ever qualifying position in Grand Prix racing that he achieved at the same circuit two years ago.

· Lukas Pesek has qualified on the front row for the first time in his Grand Prix career. This is also the first front row start for a Derbi rider since Jorge Lorenzo was third on the grid at Valencia in 2004.

· The top KTM qualifier is 18-year old Julian Simon who will be making his 50th Grand Prix start.

· Reigning World Champion Thomas Luthi is down in 17th place on the grid, his worst qualifying result since the final race of the 2004 season at Valencia.

· Following his victory at the final race of 2005 at Valencia, if Mika Kallio takes the win at Jerez he will end a record sequence of fifty-five races without a rider in the 125cc class winning back-to-back races, since Arnaud Vincent won at Donington and then Sachsenring in 2002.

· Fifteen year old British rider Bradley Smith has qualified in 25th place, the highest place rider from the four that will be making their debut in Grand Prix racing.
