· Jorge Lorenzo starts from pole for the fifth time the class. If Lorenzo is victorious he will become the third youngest 250cc winner behind Dani Pedrosa and Alan Carter.

· Yuki Takahashi will be starting from his best ever grid position and from the front row for the first time outside of Japan.

· Hector Barbera will be aiming to score his first podium finish since moving up to the 250cc class at the start of last year.

· Shuhei Aoyama has taken the final place on the front row of the grid in his first race in the 250cc class outside of Japan.

· Anthony West starts from his best grid position since the South African GP in 2000.

· Hiroshi Aoyama's seventh place on the grid is the best ever qualifying performance by a KTM rider in the 250cc class.

· Marco Simoncelli, who has won the 125cc GP at Jerez for the past two years, has qualified in eighth place on his debut on a 250cc machine. This is the best qualifying result for Gilera since Carlos Lavado was seventh on the grid riding a Gilera at the Brazilian GP in 1992.

· If Sebastian Porto finished in the top fifteen he will become the first rider to reach the milestone of 100 point scoring finishes in the 250cc class.
