Bradley Smith has impressive 125cc debut

Bradley Smith, the young British rider who made his debut in the 125cc class last yesterday, certainly has plenty of positives to take from the experience. A great showing from the Oxfordshire rider, finishing 17th on his first outing after graduating from the MotoGP Academy, spoke to to describe his wonderful debut performance.

"I'm really happy. The first few laps didn't go so well, I took a while to get into it but once I'd got the right rhythm I caught the pack and made a few hard passes and kept on pushing until the end."

After an initial blip, to be expected from a youngster unfamiliar with the category, was followed by an encouraging ride until the finish. Smith consistently knocked seconds off his previous laps, which surely bodes well for the rookie season ahead.

"I was getting faster and faster in the race, but I really needed to do that in the first few laps. I know that it all comes with experience, and there were a few things to get used to like riding with a full fuel tank, which made me miss a few braking points. I got that sorted, started hitting the brakes a little earlier and that seemed to sort it."

With his first day with the big boys out of the way, Smith is excited about the chance to race at the next Grand Prix in Qatar, although unlike Jerez it comes as uncharted territory for the fifteen year old.

"Obviously I've been to Jerez before, but Qatar is a new circuit for me. I've played it a million times on my MotoGP 4 game to practice, but obviously it's not the same. I have heard that the heat is quite intense, but I'm looking forward to it."
