Inauspicious start for Luthi

Thomas Luthi's title could not have been more disappointing for the Swiss star, suffering a crash whilst fighting for a position in the points.

After fracturing his collarbone in the Official Test in Catalunya, this weekend's performance in Jerez confirmed that Luthi was far from in his best physical state. After starting from a lowly 17th on the grid, 125cc title holder was clearly struggling, despite having missed the warmup in order to preserve strength.

"It's a disastrous start to the year, I had the shoulder bandaged and have had to hold back so as not to feel the pain," explained the Caffé Latte Elit GP rider.

"From the start the bike wasn't working well, and I was down to 23rd at the end of the first lap. When I caught up with the pack I was in 16th, and then I crashed after losing my balance."
