Lorenzo ecstatic with home victory

Jorge Lorenzo was in high spirits yesterday in Jerez after achieving his first 250cc victory. The Majorcan became the third youngest rider to win in the quarter litre category, and illustrated his intention to make it the first of many.

After crossing the finishing line, the Fortuna Aprilia rider celebrated the triumph with his team members and basked in the glory in front of the grandstands, packed with Spanish fans.

"It has been an absolute delight to win and be able to celebrate with the Spanish fans, who are the best in the world. I had dreamt all weekend of a race like this, breaking away from the pack and riding round on my own, just like my idol Max Biaggi," commented Lorenzo.

"It is the happiest day of my life. My first victory in what I hope will be many in 250cc, something we've worked hard for and will continue to do. I dedicate this race to those who love me."

Team Manager Dani Amatriain was happy with the performances of both his riders in the Jerez race, with Hector Barbera achieving fifth place despite troubles with his hand.

"We are very happy and our moral is very high, with the team starting on the right foot. Jorge's win makes us stronger and Hector I'm sure would have been up there as well if he hadn't had the niggle in his hand. I want to thank all the team for their winter work, which has enabled us to achieve good results from the start."
