125cc heads to the desert for Qatar Grand Prix

This weekend sees the 125cc World Championship heading to Losail for the second Grand Prix of the season, the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar.

Following on from an Aprilia-dominated race in Jerez, where Alvaro Bautista took victory at his home circuit, the Honda riders will be looking to make up ground on the Italian factory. It will also be something of a crunch race for Thomas Luthi, who will need to recover quickly from the after-effects of a fractured collarbone if he is to retain his title.

KTM's highly fancied riders Mika Kallio and Julian Simon, just off the podium at the Andalusian circuit, will be looking to improve still further in Qatar. Second placed Lukas Pesek has already showed his credentials early, and a continuation of current form could establish him as a serious title contender.

An absentee for the season-opening Grand Prix due to injury, Michele Pirro will be making his debut appearance of 2006 on Saturday, whilst the Malaguti Ajo Corse team will have riders Tomoyoshi Koyama and Alexis Masbou on the grid despite physical problems.
