5 years ago: Honda riders won all three races at the opening event of the 2001 season to become the first manufacturer to reach 500 Grand Prix wins in all classes.

8 years ago: Max Biaggi won the opening race of the 1998 season at Suzuka on his debut ride on a 500cc machine after qualifying on pole position.

10 years ago: Tetsuya Harada won the 250cc race at the first ever Indonesian Grand Prix at Sentul riding a Yamaha. This was the last time that a rider using Michelin Tyres has won a 250cc Grand Prix.

17 years ago: Wayne Gardner took the victory at Phillip Island in 1989, at the very first Australian Grand Prix.

23 years ago: Freddie Spencer won the 1983 French GP at Le Mans in front of Marco Lucchinelli and Ron Haslam, to record the first ever all-Honda podium in the premier-class.

55 years ago: Umberto Masetti won the 500cc race at the first ever Grand Prix event held in Spain in 1951, at the Montjuich circuit in Barcelona. This event is the slowest ever premier-class GP race taking 2 hours and 10 minutes to cover the 34 laps of the 6 km circuit at an average speed of 94 km/hr.
