Arabian nights

The desert circuit of Losail was lit up last night by three of MotoGP's top riders, taking part in night testing on behalf of the safety commission. Riding streetbikes for the occasion, used to assess the possibility of a night race in Qatar, Loris Capirossi, Valentino Rossi and Kenny Roberts Jr all undertook laps in Losail. Capirossi rode a Ducati 999R, Rossi a Yamaha R6 and Roberts a Honda CBR600RR.

Dorna CEO Mr. Carmelo Ezpeleta stated the following after the night test: `Three main issues came out of the floodlit test session for the riders who sit on the Safety Commission. The first is that they need consistent light, and shadows should be eliminated as much as possible. The second is the lights need to be much brighter, and finally that they should cover more areas, including the sides of the track where the riders pick up their reference points. Crucially the riders didn't discard the idea of racing under floodlights, but they would be willing to try once more if these conditions have been fulfilled. We will now take these comments back to the promoter and see if they will be willing to make the necessary changes, and see if the exciting prospect of racing under floodlights can be acheived´.
