Dovizioso: always the bridesmaid in Qatar

Dovizioso: always the bridesmaid in Qatar

Italian Andrea Dovizioso was once again close to victory in the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar, after an intense duel with 250cc championship leader Jorge Lorenzo. The Humangest Honda rider was only 77 thousandths off the Spaniard, eventually finishing second.

It isn't the first time that the two have fought tooth and nail at the Losail Circuit. Two seasons ago, both were involved in the closest race in history, crossing the line with exactly the same time. Last season, Dovizioso came in third.

"We had to work hard and we were at the limit with fine-tuning the bike. After the warm-up I was convinced that I could have a good race and I made up my mind to start strongly," said the Italian.

"Jorge Lorenzo was following me and at the halfway point he overtook. I stayed on his tail, always close, and when we started the last lap my goal was to get in front quickly, trying for a few metres of advantage in the first section where I was going fast." "I managed what I wanted, but it didn't turn out as I expected. I went a little wide on the bend and he got ahead of me again. The final turn I tried again, but the wind stopped me pushing the gas to the maximum and I wasn't able to do anything. I was really expecting to take the win, but my bike just lacked that little bit of extra power," concluded the Honda rider.
