Kenny Roberts Jr. from highs to lows

Kenny Roberts Jr. started the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar on the back of strong free practice results, but in the race he couldn't quite achieve the desired result.

The American was the frontrunner in the first day of practice at the Losail Circuit, fastest of the day for the first time for his new team. However, in the qualifying session a spectacular crash meant that he would start further down the grid than he would have liked.

Taking off from the fourth row alongside Chris Vermeulen and Marco Melandri, Roberts finished the race in tenth.

"The bike and the tyres responded to perfection, but we would have done better if I had put myself amongst the front group more quickly," admitted the American. "With the incident involving Hopkins we had to go more carefully."

"In any case I want to thank my team for their good work over the weekend. If someone had told he in November that I'd be in the top ten in the first races of the season I wouldn't have been so convinced."
