Hiroshi Aoyama earned an extraordinary fifth place at the Losail Circuit, with which he improved on his top six finish in Jerez for KTM.

The Japanese rider was part of the second pack in the race, and during the first few laps he fought with Hector Barbera for third. In the second half of the race, Aoyama dropped back and had a battle on his hands with Sylvain Guintoli for fifth.

The result in Qatar became the best result achieved by KTM's 250cc squadron in the dry. Anthony West's 2005 second place in his Donington Park debut is the team's best overall result, achieved amidst heavy rain.

Hiroshi Aoyama explained that his bike "responded even better than its rider. We worked really well over the weekend and we were able to improve a lot."

"Although the conditions weren't easy, I think that the KTM was still capable of finishing in third or fourth. I am really satisfied, as are the team, and I will give my all again in order to earn even better results."

Harald Bartol, manager of the Austrian team, was delighted with the performance in Qatar. "Hiroshi did a great job, I'm really happy. Poggiali was running with a different engine than Hiroshi's, and after the warm-up crash he rode more cautiously to avoid falling again due to the wind. In any case, I am over the moon with both riders' results this weekend."
