Edwards hanging on to BMW M Trophy lead

Colin Edwards still leads the classification for the BMW M Trophy thanks to his Z4 Roadster win at the Official Test in Catalunya. However, the advantage earned from his wet weather victory has been cut somewhat after the first two races, in particular by Repsol Honda's Nicky Hayden.

The Kentucky rider was fourth fastest in qualifying at both Jerez and Qatar, on both occasions faster than Edwards to leave the gap at just eight tenths of a second.

Valentino Rossi occupies third position, just over two seconds behind his team-mate. Behind the leading three, Chris Vermeulen and Marco Melandri are separated by just four tenths.

18 of the 19 riders are in with a shout for the trophy, with only Casey Stoner out of the running due to his absence from the Official Test. Riders must take part in every qualifying session of the season to contest the BMW M Trophy.
