Lüthi: "We are on the way up!"

Lüthi: "We are on the way up!"

Thomas Lüthi is a rider experiencing a slow start to the 2006 season. Having suffered a fractured collarbone in a preseason test crash, the reigning 125cc World Champion is still playing it safe in order to avoid aggravating the injury.

Motogp.com caught up with the Swiss rider to ask him about the road to recovery.

Firstly, how are you feeling physically after two races off the back of a fractured collarbone?

Actually I feel OK right now, but I'm still working on being fit for Istanbul, where I have to race on April 30th.

You've indicated previously that you haven't been pushing through the pain when riding so far this season. Is it still frustrating to see yourself out of the top three in qualifying and races?

Well, of course there are definitely funnier things than being way back in the field – but we are on the way up!

When do you think you will be truly at 100% this season? Do you still think that the title is within your reach?

The goal for the season is to be top 6, exactly like it was last year where I became World Champion… So of course it would be nice to defend the title, but we all know how lucky a rider has to be for that to happen. If you look back – when was the last time somebody did that?!? First things first: Lets get back to the top and after we'll see.

Aprilia have made a strong start to the season, do you think this will continue or will Honda recover?

Sure, Aprilia is strong right now, but so is Honda. You can always win races on a Honda and I think that is true this season as much as any.
