MotoGP: Previously in Turkey…

The premier class of MotoGP heads to Turkey this weekend, for round three of the World Championship. At this still early stage of the season, a good result at Istanbul Park could be the turning point of the season as the riders look to top the table.

Current leader Loris Capirossi has opened 2006 with two podium finishes, giving him the current advantage after the races in Jerez and Qatar. He has never ridden at the Turkish track; could this be the stumbling block for Capirex's season?

Marco Melandri has no problem with familiarity, having won last year after an epic duel with Valentino Rossi. His first victory in MotoGP, happy memories of Istanbul Park could be the kickstart for Melandri's season. Rossi will be contesting his 100th Grand Prix in the premier class, looking to mark it with a second consecutive victory. He finished second last year at the Eurasian circuit.

Other riders showing great consistency are the two Honda factory duo of Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa. Hayden is on a long run of podium finishes, but is frustrated not to have gathered wins along the way. Pedrosa was second in last years 250cc Grand Prix of Turkey, behind another of this year's impressive rookies, Australian Casey Stoner.
