The 250cc category's top privateer in 2005, Sylvain Guintoli has displayed his development for this season, with a notable upturn in results.

The Equipe GP de France rider has spoken to motogp.com, analysing his start to 2006 and his view of the year ahead.

"Obviously we didn't do many tests before the first Grand Prix. We also had some problems that delayed the preparation program. In the Jerez practice sessions we were still having difficulties, and tell the truth finishing ninth was a bit of a pleasant surprise."

"The improvements in Qatar were above all thanks to the finetuning carried out on the bike, which ran much better. We changed the chassis setup completely," stated Guintoli. "Each time we took to the track the team was tweaking the engine setting. This process takes time, but I'm confident that we can keep on improving in the next few Grands Prix, because with moral high and with strong determination we are much stronger, and on the ascent."

"I think that this bike really has potential. The work done by the team on both the chassis and the engine is coming to fruition. I'm confident of stepping onto the podium soon."
