Pedrosa earns first MotoGP pole

Dani Pedrosa will start tomorrow's Polini GP of China from the front spot, after putting in a last minute circuit pole record for his debut appearance ahead of the pack. The Spaniard's time of 1'59.009 came on a mildly wet track, and the session was split in half by the appearance of the rain.

It looked as if Sete Gibernau would maintain his advantage from the first half hour when the rain started to fall, but when the riders came out again times quickly improved, dropping the Spaniard down the pecking order.

John Hopkins earns his first front row of the season, ahead of a rejuvenated Colin Edwards. Shinya Nakano, who had been sitting in pole in the later stages, dropped to fourth, ahead of Hayden and Gibernau.
