Rossi starts free practice with a bang

Valentino Rossi has set off well in the first free practice session at the Le Mans Circuit, with an advantage of over half a second over his nearest challengers.

The Italian rider, using a new chassis on his M1 this weekend, clocked a time of 1'35.288 on the 2005/2006 hybrid.

Second place went to team-mate Colin Edwards, ahead of Loris Capirossi, John Hopkins and Casey Stoner.
