Rossi receives Laureus Award

Valentino Rossi was the recipient of the Sporting Spirit award yesterday at the Laureus Awards presentation in Barcelona. The Italian star was up for three awards, but missed out on the Sportsman of the Year award retained by Roger Federer.

The trophy is a special recognition of Rossi's sporting career, who has become one of the biggest legends in motorcycle racing after winning seven world titles.

Rossi attended the ceremony after a day of testing alongside his Camel Yamaha team in Le Mans.

The charismatic World Champion has also put a signed AGV helmet on internet auction site ebay, with proceeds financing the construction of the new Amico Charly Onlus sport centre, designed for young people in Italy.

The bidding opened at 1 euro and will last until May 30th.
