Italy 2005: Talmacsi takes maiden 125cc win

Red Bull KTM's Gabor Talmacsi scored his first Grand Prix win at Mugello last year, after a dramatic 125cc race which saw top contenders Mika Kallio and Hector Faubel crashing on the very last corner.

Kallio and eventual World Champion Thomas Lüthi were the fastest off the grid, but it wasn't long before they were joined by Marco Simoncelli, Hector Faubel and Talmacsi to make it a thrilling five-way tussle during the first half of the race. On lap 12 Simoncelli crashed out after losing the front end of his bike, leaving Faubel as the sole Aprilia rider challenging for a podium finish against the two KTM riders and Honda's Lüthi.

With three laps to go, Kallio and Faubel turned up the heat to provide another hard-fought duel, similar to the one they had back in April at Estoril which saw Kallio emerge the victor. However, this time Kallio crashed out on the very last corner, Bucine, and took his rival with him.

The dramatic crash allowed Hungarian Gabor Talmacsi to take his first Grand Prix win, having overtaken Thomas Lüthi a couple of corners before the incident. Spaniard Joan Olive inherited third place, securing his first podium finish in three years. Mattia Pasini took fourth ahead of Tomoyoshi Koyama.
