Marco Melandri's victory in France was the 199th time that a rider has won in the premier-class riding Honda machinery. Honda took their first success in the premier-class on the debut for the factory four-cylinder 500cc machine back in 1966 at the West German Grand Prix ridden by Jim Redman. As shown in the following table Honda are in line to become the first manufacturer to reach the milestone of 200 victories:
