A ninth place finish for Japanese rider Makoto Tamada in Mugello earned the Konica Minolta man valuable points, but left him feeling somewhat disappointed. He now works alongside tyre manufacturer Michelin to develop the quality which should put him up amongst the top six.

"After a none-too-satisfying race, it wasn't easy to get back on the bike and face a testing session. Finally I am able to say that I am content, because now I am convinced that the materail developed by Michelin for me will help me achieve better results."

"These new tyres have been designed according to mine and my team's requests to Michelin. The results show that we are going in the right direction and I hope that the next few races confirm this.

Giulio Bernardelle, technical director for Konica Minolta Honda, explained that: "W e had planned this test at the start of the season with the intention of checking the new material. We have been trying to resolve the problems with feeling in the RC211V's front end since last year. With the collaboration between ourselves and Michelin and our development program, we all expect better results."

"We want to try these new tyres out in the next race, as Catalunya is quite similar to Mugello and it will be important to set up the bike similar to how we had it here."
