Dovizioso maintains podium grip

Andrea Dovizioso raised his 2006 podium total to 6 in Mugello, thanks to a third place in the 250cc Gran Premio d'Italia Alice. It makes him the only rider in the World Championship to step onto the rostrum in every one of this season's Grands Prix, and more importantly maintains his lead at the top of the classification.

Consistency has always been one of Dovizioso's strong points, as the Humangest Honda rider's statistics illustrate:

-When he won the 125cc title in 2004, Dovizioso finished every race but one, the Portuguese GP, in the top four.

-Since moving up to 250cc, Dovizioso has finished in the top 10 on 20 occasions, having contested 21 Grands Prix. The only anomaly was the Malaysian Grand Prix in which he fell on the first lap.

-During his time in 250cc, the Italian has finished in the top 6 on 16 occasions, racking up a total of 10 podiums.

-This season he has become the first 250cc rider since Tetsuya Harada in 2001 to finish on the podium for the first five races of a season.

-In addition, Dovizioso has yet to cross the finishing line less than half a second off the race winner in the past few races. -With the exception of Le Mans, where he was pipped to the chequered flag by team-mate Yuki Takahashi, the Italian has always been the highest finishing Honda rider.

Dovizioso last week accompanied his Humangest Racing team-mates from both 250cc and 125cc to a presentation in Mugello, organised to celebrate an agreement between the team and the Comunidad de San Patrigiano. The latter is the largest detox and drug-control centre in Europe. The four Honda bikes will display the message "drugs off" for the rest of the season as a message of support for the centre's work.
