Rossi on record trail

Valentino Rossi continues to add new achievements to his MotoGP CV, breaking records which previously seemed unobtainable. The reigning World Champion now has Angel Nieto and Giacomo Agostini in his sights, as he looks to chase their milestones.

The Italian star's victory in Mugello put him out on his own as the rider with the second highest number of premier class victories. His 55 wins put him one ahead of Australian motorcycle legend Mick Doohan. He lies 13 victories behind Agostini's 68 in the quest for the record, a figure which could be reached during next season.

Counting Rossi's 125cc and 250cc victories, he has 81 winner's trophies to his name and lies only nine off Angel Nieto's all-classes record.

After his worst start to a premier class season, Rossi's performances in Le Mans and Mugello have given him a base from which to chase the challenges.
