Catalunya 2005: Pasini takes 125cc victory

Mattia Pasini snatched victory at Catalunya in 2005, scoring his second 125cc win of the season on the Totti Top Sport – NGS Aprilia. The young Italian hit the front on the second lap and led all the way to the chequered flag, crossing the line with a nine-second gap over Marco Simoncelli. After the race, Pasini thanked his team and the Clinica Mobile staff, who helped him come back from a wrist injury suffered in France.

Second placed Simoncelli also produced an impressive performance, coming back from sixteenth position after a poor start from the front row of the grid. The Italian was back in third position midway through the race and managed to demote pole-sitter Mika Kallio from second to third.

Kallio had a slightly disappointing race, but was able to get back on the podium after his crash in Italy. However, he was unable to match the pace of the Aprilia riders in the second half of the race. Team-mate Gabor Talmacsi took fourth, ahead of Tomoyoshi Koyama and Manuel Poggiali.
