Debon steps in for Barbera at Montmelo

Spanish rider Alex Debon has been chosen to replace Hector Barbera in the Fortuna Aprilia team this weekend, stepping in for his countryman after Barbera suffered an arm injury in a mountain bike accident.

Debon, test rider for Aprilia, took part in the Gran Premio d'Italia Alice two weeks ago at Mugello as a wildcard, and impressed with a fifth place finish.

"I am very happy to be able to participate in this Grand Prix, although of course I feel bad that the opportunity has come about as the result of an injury to a another rider," declared Debon. "I was in Jerez on Sunday, watching the CEV races, and in the evening they called me to say that Hector had been injured and that I should prepare to race in Montmelo. I had a good race in Mugello, but in the end I dropped back a bit from the leading pack. I hope to make a big step forward this time."
