Three taken to hospital after Catalunya crash

Marco Melandri, Sete Gibernau and Loris Capirossi were the three rider most affected by the opening corner incident of the Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya. The two Italians had to be taken to the Catalunya General Hospital by helicopter, with Melandri being diagnosed with a dislocated collarbone and neck injury whilst Capirossi suffered an abdominal contusion.

Spaniard Gibernau fractured his right collarbone in the crash with his Ducati team-mate, and also was the recipient of a light concussion.

Neither of the three played any further part in the restarted Grand Prix, and it looks likely that at least one of them will miss the A-style TT Assen in six days time.

Motogp.com will have further details of the riders' condition as they become available.
