Gibernau set to undergo surgery for collarbone fracture

Sete Gibernau will undergo surgery in the next few hours in order to treat his fractured left collarbone, an injury suffered in the múltiple bike pile up on the first corner of the Gran Premi Cinzano de MotoGP.

Specialists will replace the metal plate already used by Gibernau after a similar injury with a larger version. After suffering concussion in the crash, a 24 hour wait was advised before submitting the Spaniard for surgery.

The ambulance transporting Gibernau to hospital was involved in an accident 50 metres from the Barcelona medical centre. No further injuries were caused by this incident.

Although a date still hasn't been set for the Ducati Marlboro rider's return, it looks very unlikely that Gibernau will play any part in the next race on the calendar at the Assen Circuit.
