Melandri and Capirossi continue under observation

Marco Melandri and Loris Capirossi, admitted to Catalunya General Hospital yesterday after being taken from the Montmelo Circuit by helicopter, remain in intensive care today for a predicted 24 hours under observation.

Melandri has been diagnosed with concussion and an encephallic injury, in a dation to a cervical contusion and a paracervical hematoma. The Fortuna Honda rider also suffered a series of other contusions and injuries, although on a far smaller scale.

Loris Capirossi suffered an abdominal contusion on his left side, along with a pectoral hematoma and other contusions. Tests have ruled out the chance of the Italian having further damaged his thorax, including the lung injured in last year's Australian GP.

Further tests will determine the development of the injuries, and should clarify when the two riders will be able to return to action.
