Rossi crash marks first MotoGP practice

The MotoGP riders had 90 minutes to get acquainted with the Assen Circuit, although the session was marked by a spectacular crash from Valentino Rossi on his sixth lap. The Italian rider has suspected hand and ankle injuries.

Shinya Nakano clocked the fastest time, ahead of John Hopkins. The two were the only riders to break the 1'40 barrier. Third position went to Casey Stoner, followed by Chris Vermeulen, Carlos Checa and Colin Edwards. Marco Melandri rode after receiving medical clearance yesterday afternoon.
