Rookies looking strong in British MotoGP practice

Rookies Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa led the way in today's MotoGP morning session at Donington Park, ahead of premier class veterans Loris Capirossi and Valentino Rossi. The top four were separated by just over half a second, with the Ducati rider's performance being particularly impressive considering the doubts over anything more than a minimal participation in free practice. Having skipped yesterday's afternoon session, Capirossi put in 27 laps of the Donington Park circuit, and was less than three tenths off Stoner's 1'28.252 time.

Marco Melandri and Kenny Roberts Jr completed the top six, ahead of Colin Edwards, Nicky Hayden, John Hopkins and Randy de Puniet. Amongst the crashes in the session the most notable was a huge highside from Fortuna Honda stand-in Michel Fabrizio.
