With his fourth win of the season, Alvaro Bautista once again upped his championship advantage to 50 points. The Master MVA Aspar rider seems unstoppable in the 125cc category, and only Mika Kallio seems in with a chance (albeit small) of catching him.

Along with four victories in the class, Bautista has also stepped onto the podium on a total of eight occasions out of the nine races undertaken thus far in 2006. Not since Valentino Rossi in 1997 has a champion had such a record in the first nine races.

"The result in Donington made me very happy. I was out for redemption after having lost out on victory at the final chicane in Assen. In addition to being one of my favourites, I have good memories of the circuit from when I earned my first podium and points in the World Championship. I knew that my pace was much better than that of the other riders," commented Bautista.

Bautista widened the Championship gap by five points over Kallio, who came second after an exciting battle with Mattia Pasini.

"The duel with Mattia allowed Bautista to get away. Second place isn't bad, but I'm not particularly happy about the result," said the KTM rider.
