Pedrosa and Rossi finally share podium

Donington Park was the scene of a long-awaited moment in the 2006 season, with Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi finally stepping onto the podium together. After nine races competing against each other, in which Rossi took three wins and four podiums and Pedrosa two wins and five rostrum places, the closest that the two riders had previously got to sharing the steps was back in Turkey. At Istanbul Pedrosa fell on the final lap and Rossi was just outside the top three. Since then, victories in Shanghai and Donington have confirmed the Spaniard's successful transition to the premier class.

Pedrosa has thus far had a stunning start to the season, in which he was expected to emerge as Rossi's main rival for the title. Whilst the Spaniard has showed good form since his debut second place in Jerez, Rossi suffered a nightmare start to the season and lies nine points behind Pedrosa in the standings after clawing his way back into the title picture. The Repsol Honda and Camel Yamaha riders both trail Nicky Hayden in the classification.
