Germany 2005: Kallio takes win in crash-filled race

Red Bull KTM's Mika Kallio took victory at last year's 125cc race, which was red-flagged with seven laps to go. As Manuel Poggiali crashed on the back straight- his Gilera left lying in the middle of the track- race direction were forced to stop the race with the final positions decided by the 20th lap classification.

Honda's Thomas Lüthi and Aprilia's Marco Simoncelli completed the podium, having formed the leading group with Kallio, accompanied by Gabor Talmacsi.

Mattia Pasini, level on points with Talmacsi at the top of the Championship table before the race, was one of the many riders who crashed out. At the start of the race, an incident in the middle of the pack saw four riders going off on turn one (Kuzuhara, Pirro, Terol and Bautista). On the next lap, Iannone and Faubel clashed and retired. Further incidents involved Gadea, di Meglio and Koyama, with only 25 of the 41 riders qualified on the grid reaching lap 20.

Julian Simon took fifth ahead of Lukas Pesek and Fabrizio Lai, with Joan Olive in eighth and Spanish rookie Aleix Espargaro securing his second top 10 finish of the year ahead of Pablo Nieto.
