Roberts fastest in first German practice

Kenny Roberts Jr has continued his fine run of practice form from the past few races, with the fastest time of the first practice session in Germany. The American's time of 1'24.318 was just half a second off the circuit record. Nicky Hayden was 19 tenths off his compatriot, followed by Casey Stoner, Marco Melandri and John Hopkins.

Sixth place went to Valentino Rossi, ahead of Loris Capirossi and Dani Pedrosa. The Spaniard was less than six tenths off the fastest lap of the morning session.

With the light rain stopping shortly after the start of the session, the Sachsenring Circuit quickly dried to leave the riders with a better chance to fine-tune their bikes.
