2006 In Review: Rossi suffers Shanghai setback

The start of the season saw a further setback for Valentino Rossi at the Chinese Grand Prix, with the Italian forced to retire from the race with a front tyre problem.

The Italian, starting from far back on the grid, demonstrated his talent for clawing his way through the field, until on lap 15 he returned to the pits to change his rear tyre. After completing another lap, Rossi was once again forced to return to his mechanics, discovering that the real problem lay with the front end. Some days later, tyre factory Michelin confirmed that there had been a problem with the production of the tyre, contributing to Rossi's misfortune.
