2006 In Review: Melandri opens win account in Turkey

Marco Melandri put his stamp on the World Championship with victory at Istanbul, following on from a discreet start to the season at Jerez and Qatar. The Italian rider repeated his first 2005 premier class victory after three years in MotoGP, making an epic comeback through the field having started from 14th on the grid.

The Fortuna Honda rider would go on to become the first rider to win two races in 2006, making his case for a first World Title.
