Hofmann to replace Gibernau at Brno

The after-effects of Sete Gibernau's Catalunya crash linger on for the Spaniard, who recently underwent a second operation on his broken collarbone. Gibernau was subjected to a scan yesterday to assess his condition, and results showed that riding this weekend would be unadvisable in his current state.

Although there were no complications from his second operation, doctors, Gibernau and the team decided that the Ducati rider should sit out the race at Brno in order to race in Malaysia at full strength.

"Together with the team and my surgeon we decided that the best way forward is for me to continue my recovery, because the most important thing is that I return to racing in the best possible condition, rather than just to make up the numbers. So now I will work to prepare myself to contest the last part of the championship with even more vitality and determination. Once again I want to thank my team because they have treated me like family since I first joined them, which is something I appreciate very much, especially during difficult moments like these," said Gibernau in a press release.

Having already stood in for the Ducati team at Assen and Donington, Alex Hofmann will once again ride the Desmosedici GP06 this weekend at Brno, with Ivan Silva in turn replacing him in the Pramac d'Antin hotseat.

"I am very happy to have the chance to contest another GP with the factory Ducati squad and I would like to thank Ducati, Pramac, D'Antin and all our sponsors for giving me this opportunity. Obviously, I feel very sorry for Sete because he's going through a difficult time. I wish him a speedy and full recovery."
