The first free practice session at the Brno Circuit kicked off with Mika Kallio heading the timesheets. The second placed 125cc rider clocked a lap of 2'10.174, ahead of local rider Lukas Pesek. Sergio Gadea came in third fastest ahead of Mattia Pasini and the returning Julian Simon, making his comeback after fracturing his femur in Catalunya.

Title defender Thomas Luthi completed the top six, with Gabor Talmacsi and current championship leader Alvaro Bautista ahead of young sensations Pol Espargaro And Lorenzo Zanetti. Esparagaro in particular looked strong at only his second Grand Prix, riding a Derbi.
