Brno ninth ends Hayden run

Nicky Hayden's ninth place in the Czech Republic Grand Prix was something of a blot on his recent copybook. The American has not finished so low down in the standings since a soaking 2005 Chinese GP.

The Repsol Honda rider is still on a remarkable run of form, starting from his 2005 home triumph at Laguna Seca.

In the last 22 Grands Prix, Hayden has only finished outside the points on one occasion, when he crashed in the wet at Donington 2005.

He has only finished outside the top five on three occasions: Motegi 2005 and Donington and Brno this season.

He has stepped onto the podium on 15 occasions with three victories to his name. A total of 347 points since Laguna 2005 is only bettered by reigning World Champion Valentino Rossi.

With five races still to be contested in the World Championship, Hayden is just 5 points away from equalling his total from last season, when he took third place overall in the classification.
