Day Two of Red Bull MotoGP Rookie Cup selection nearly over

As the selection for tomorrow's Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup second stage draws closer, nearly all of the more than 100 riders have taken to the track onboard the Metrakit 125cc bike. Afternoon activity at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana continued today after a brief midday pause, with the final 9-rider groups having their 20 minute opportunity to shine at the Spanish track.

The Selection Committee, headed by Harald Bartol, Alberto Puig and Raul Jara, have been impressed with the quality on show. Today saw the appearance of a few riders with MotoGP connections, including Karel Pesek, brother of Derbi Racing's Lukas, riding with his brother's number 52 on his bike.

Nicole McAleer, a 14 year old Irish rider, was one of the last on track but coincidentally the first to apply for the Red Bull MotoGP Academy opportunity. "It really surprised me to find out that I was the first to sign up. I compete in the British Championship, it's my first season. I decided very quickly when I was told about this opportunity," she commented to motogp.com.

Tomorrow sees the selected riders from today and yesterday's sessions joining together for the next stage of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.
