Heavy rain hits Sepang and postpones MotoGP qualifying

The torrential rain falling at the Sepang Circuit has cast doubt over the remainder of the already delayed day of qualifying sessions. With the first downpour of the weekend coming down in the middle of the 250cc practice session, and continuing amidst thunder and lightning predicted to last for four hours at the Malaysian track, Race Direction have announced a contingency plan for the rest of Saturday, which is as follows:

MotoGP Qualifying is delayed one hour and, if deemed unsafe, will be put back until conditions are appropriate for riding.

If the track fails to dry, then the grid for tomorrow's Marlboro Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix will be decided on the combined free practice results from yesterday and today. In such a case, Valentino Rossi would start from pole, alongside Nicky Hayden and Loris Capirossi on the front row.
