Valentino Rossis victory in Malaysia was his 88th appearance on the podium in the premier-class from 110 starts. This is the same number of podiums that the legendary Giacomo Agostini achieved during his Grand Prix career, in which he made 119 starts in the premier-class and won eight world championship titles. As shown in the following table, only Mick Doohan has finished in the top three more times than Agostini and Rossi, with 95 appearances from 137 starts.

Loris Capirossis second place finish in Malaysia was his 35th appearance on the podium in the premier-class, one more than double 500cc world champions Phil Read. Of the riders in the list who have not won the premier-class title, only Max Biaggi and Randy Mamola have finished on the podium more frequently than Capirossi.
