De Puniet and Checa in surprise practice one-two

The surprises continue at Phillip Island as the premier class prepares for the GMC Australian Grand Prix. Randy de Puniet continues at the top of the combined practice timesheets, still the only rider to go round the track in under 1'30. Carlos Checa gave another shock, reminiscent of his podium performance last year, as he clocked a 1'30.202 lap this morning to put him in second place.

Nicky Hayden, Loris Capirossi, Toni Elias and Valentino Rossi complete the top six, with the highest placing local rider, Casey Stoner, in seventh. The 20 year old went off track during the session, which also saw a crash from James Ellison.

Colin Edwards, Kenny Roberts Jr and Sete Gibernau rounded off the top ten.
