Championship lead cut to 21 points

The championship race has closed further following Valentino Rossi's third place in Australia. Narrowed down to 21 points, it now appears to be a straight battle between Rossi and championship leader Nicky Hayden for the premier class crown. The Camel Yamaha rider has cut the gap on his rival in three consecutive races, and with 75 points still up for grabs there are tense times ahead for both camps.

In the motogp.com survey, a large majority of fans predicted such a result, answering a resounding "yes" to the question "Can Rossi finish ahead of Hayden in Australia?"

The question posed this week is set to divide readership, as we ask you whether Dani Pedrosa can still be a contender after finishing a lowly 15th this weekend. The Spanish rookie is now level with Marco Melandri on 193 points after the Fortuna Honda rider's win at Phillip Island.
