Interesting facts before the 250cc race

· Jorge Lorenzo starts from pole for the tenth time in 2006, equalling the record number of poles in a season in the 250cc class set by Anton Mang in 1981. If Lorenzo wins the race it will be his ninth victory of the year and a new record for the number of 250cc GP victories in a season by a Spanish rider.

· Andrea Dovizioso, who starts from the front row for the ninth time in 2006, won the 125cc race at Motegi on his way to taking the 125cc world title in 2004.

· Alex de Angelis' second-place finish in Australia was the fourteenth time that he has stood on the podium in the 250cc class without having taken a victory, making him the rider who has finished on the podium on most occasions in the 250cc class without having stood on the top step.

· Hiroshi Aoyama, who won at Motegi last year, has already had five podium finishes this year in what is the first full year of racing for the 250cc KTM machine.

· Unless Honda can outscore Aprilia by more than four points, then Aprilia will win the 250cc constructor's title for the sixth time.
