Honda take seventeenth constructors title

Although unable to get a rider on the top spot of the podium in Motegi, Honda still had cause to celebrate at their home circuit, taking their seventeenth World Championship constructors title. The latest milestone for the Japanese factory takes their list of achievements to one more than MV Agusta, with whom they had previously shared the accolade. It was sweet revenge over rival factory Yamaha too, the winning factory last season.

Third place for Marco Melandri was enough to secure the constructors title, with Honda's official factory team also earning the team championship to reward Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa's efforts this season. Honda have had a rider on the podium for every podium this season.

HRC Managing Director Satoru Horiike praised the hard work, and also stated that Honda's next focus was giving Nicky Hayden his first world title this season. "We are proud of our victory, particularly as we took it at home. Now the individual rider title is our number one priority," said Horiike.
