Aoyama aiming for classification improvement

Hiroshi Aoyama provided one of the memorable images of the season last Sunday on home soil, when the Japanese rider, victorious in the 250cc A-Style Grand Prix of Japan, was overcome by emotion on the podium. His second win of the season, after triumph in Turkey, also helps the older Aoyama brother in his quest for third place in the classification.

Speaking exclusively to motogp.com, the KTM rider expressed his delight with the win.

"It was a very special day. Winning at home for the second year running was so important to me, and I knew right from the very first practice that it was going to be difficult. I tried to push right until I crossed the line, and I'm sure that the support of all the Japanese fans gave me the strength necessary to achieve a win which made me so happy."

Currently in fourth place in the championship, Aoyama lies 14 points behind Alex de Angelis, his closest rival at Motegi,

"There are only two races to go this season, so I'll try my best and, if it's possible, improve my position in the standings before the end of 2006."
