Having finished fifth little over a week ago in Japan, Roberto Locatelli is this year's best privateer in the 250cc category. Team Toth's likeable rider also lies in fifth overall in the championship after a consistent campaign, his best position being a podium spot in Qatar.

The Italian former 125cc World Champion spoke to motogp.com about the honour, and also his goals for the end of the season.

"I'm very satisfied with being the best privateer in the category. Right now I am going to try my best to defend my position in the classification. Although I have the chance to improve my position, I think that would be really difficult against so many factory bikes. I'll try, and as in any race I will be after a place on the podium," said Locatelli.

"I'm very happy with my form, with the bike and with the great support that I've received from the team and Aprilia, who have always believed in me. We haven't decided anything about next season, although I've received some good offers. I hope everything can be cleared up by the time we get to Valencia," he concluded.

motogp.com has compiled a special video in tribute to Locatelli, with his greatest moments in recent years in highlight form.
