Lorenzo in line for title win at Estoril

Fortuna Aprilia's Jorge Lorenzo heads to Portugal 27 points ahead of nearest rival Andrea Dovizioso in the 250cc World Championship, and could win the title at the Estoril Circuit by finishing in front of the Italian on the podium, or by finishing one place behind him if Dovizioso can only manage at most a fourth place.

Of the 15 races undertaken this season, Lorenzo has already taken eight victories, equalling the highest number of wins achieved by a Spanish rider in the 250cc class in a single year. The record was set last year by Dani Pedrosa.

The Majorcan lies on equal terms with Anton Mang's record of ten pole positions in the 250cc class, set in 1981. He has also finished in the podium places eleven times, and is on a nine race streak. If he can repeat the feat in Portugal, then he will have the longest sequence since Ralf Waldmann in 1996.

The manner in which Lorenzo has taken his victories, including a number of dominating performances seconds ahead of his closest challengers, make him one of the World Championship's outstanding performers this season.

250cc, 2006, GRANDE PREMIO DE PORTUGAL, Jorge Lorenzo
